TRM™ Services has it roots in 1993 with the formation of the original tax law practice of international tax attorney, Prof. Dr. Daniel N. Erasmus, to make the expertise of his team in tax risk management and tax controversy management available to multi-national firms world-wide. The firm began with one office in Johannesburg, South Africa, and soon became sought after for its expertise and experience in Africa-related multinational tax matters (with U.S, European and Middle East connections).

Since TRM™’s inception, the need for specialist advice for international companies dealing in Africa has grown significantly. This is partly a function of increasing trade with Africa, but mainly relates to the rapidly evolving revenue authorities in African countries. For example, whereas in most developed countries areas such as transfer pricing are well documented, this is substantially not the case in Africa, which exposes multinationals to significant tax risks. TRM has grown rapidly in assisting clients facing these kinds of issues.

Today, TRM™ has associate offices in South Africa, United States, Mauritius and Nigeria, and has completed successful assignments in over 20 countries from North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. TRM™ served companies whose collective issued Revenue Service Assessments tallied an astounding $3,5bn. With the direct involvement of TRM™, this collective figure was settled for less than 3% across these companies, with a number of them having settled for 0%.
